WOOD BADGE WE6-49-11

Monica Horton, ASM Program

Monica is currently serving on the Scripps-Mesa District Committee as Religious Emblem Coordinator and a committee member for Troop 1212 in Mira Mesa.

Monica started scouting as a Wolf leader when her older son, Sean, joined Pack 1209, guiding the den through to Arrow of Light and crossing over to Boy Scouts. She also served as Pack Committee Chair and Pack Trainer. As Sean crossed over to Troop 1212, younger son, Dylan, became a Tiger in the Pack, and Monica continued her adult leadership, ultimately attending Woodbadge course WE4-49-03, earning her beads in the Fox patrol in June 2004. One of her ticket items was to take care of registration for the upcoming Webelos Woods, taking care of this for several years until moving on a few years later to take care of the kitchen and the feeding of the staffers.

As Dylan also crossed over to the Troop, Monica continued her involvement, serving as Board of Review Chair and eventually as Committee Chair. When Scripps-Mesa District was organized, she joined the originating committee as District Trainer, later serving as District Chair. Along the way, she has earned Brotherhood in Order of the Arrow and feels very privileged to work in the kitchen during the Wulinaxin Chapter Ordeals. She has received the Cub Scout Leader Award, Den Leader Award, Webelos Den Leader Award, Boy Scout Training Award, District Award of Merit, Bronze Pelican award from the Catholic Church, and Silver Beaver.

Not wanting to be idle, Monica is a self-employed medical transcriptionist. She also enjoys sharing her knack for baking by participating in the Cooking Ministry at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church. David, her husband of 26 years, is also a Scouter, currently serving as an Assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 1212, having earned his beads in 2008. Their older son, Sean, is an Eagle Scout, and Dylan is a Star Scout.
