WOOD BADGE WE6-49-11

Mary Bostwick, Course Director

Mary currently serves as the Activities & Civic Service Committee Chair for San Diego-Imperial Council.

Mary’s experience in scouting actually started with Girl Scouts back in the late sixties in Savannah Georgia, the birthplace of Girl Scouting. After a positive experience as a girl, Mary decided to get her four daughters involved so in 1985 she became co-leader of her oldest daughter’s Daisy troop along with a neighbor round the corner who also was not quick enough to get out the way of the Council recruiters. Throughout the ensuing years Mary served as leader to four Girl Scout troops, bought/ate lots of Girl Scout cookies, took awesome trips around the United States with her girls, served as University City Service Unit Treasurer and Chair for several years culminating in nearly 20 years of service and the GSUSA San Diego-Imperial Council Appreciation Award.

After about 15 years of Girl Scout service Mary’s one and only son, Kenny, entered scouting as a Tiger so she switched uniforms and hopped the fence to start a tenure with BSA. Tiger Den Leader, Den Leader, Webelos Den Leader comprised the Cub experience. Once Kenny moved to Troop 1212 in Mira Mesa, Mary took on the role of Troop Committee Chair and eventually Advancement Chair for Scripps Mesa District. With husband Jeff, a former Wood Badge course director, urging her to consider Wood Badge she took the plunge in 2003 and joined the Bobwhite covey for good. Tapped for the 2004 Wood Badge staff before she was even beaded provided added incentive to complete her ticket! Since then she has been on staff at the National Jamboree, served on the WE4-49-06, WE4-49-08, WE4-49-09 Wood Badge courses and is looking forward to a great staff experience at the 2010 Centennial Jamboree and the WE6-49-11 Wood Badge course.

Professionally, Mary graduated from UC San Diego and currently serves as Operations Manager for the San Diego Unified School District Office of College, Career and Technical Education. Known as a jack-of-all-trades she has also been accused of emulating Mary Poppins from time to time.

A former Stake Young Women President, Camp Director and Seminary teacher for the LDS Church, Mary now supports her husband,  Jeff, in his work as a Bishop for a young single adult ward having added 200+ young adults to their current family of four daughters, one son, two sons-in-law and one adorable granddaughter.
