George McMahon, Troop Guide

George currently serves as the Assistant Scoutmaster of Troop 789 on Camp Pendleton and as the Assistant District Commissioner for the Santa Margarita District. 

A previous Life Scout, George started his Scouter experiences in the Far East Council serving three years in the Cub Scouts as a den leader and Webelos den leader and then on to Boy Scouts as an Assistant Scoutmaster. He served at the district level as a Unit Commissioner, Assistant District Commissioner and as a committee member for the Greater Okinawan International Scout Committee until he left in 2008.  He co-chaired the 2007 Far East International Jamboree celebrating 100 years of Scouting and served
as Camp Director for the 2008 Boy Scout and Cub Scout summer camps.

Since
coming back to the states he has been very active with his Troop and District, serves the council on the International Relations Committee as well as being Scoutmaster for Troop 706 at the 2010 Centennial Jamboree.

George completed his Wood Badge training in the Far East Council’s course WI-803-07 and gained his beads as a Beaver.  He served on staff as the
Quartermaster for San Diego – Imperial Council’s course WE4-49-09.

He received his undergraduate education at the University of Texas and graduate education at San Diego State University.  To earn money to support his scouting endeavors, George serves as an active duty Commander in the Navy stationed at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton. When not deployed or involved in scouting with his son George (12), a Life Scout, he is involved with coaching Oceanside Pop Warner football and watching his daughter Lexi (11) play softball.  All of this is possible because of the support of his wife of 15 years, Kristina.
