Robert (Bob) Drew, ASM Venture Support
Bob is currently serving as a Crew Advisor (C-324), Assistant Scoutmaster (T-324), Associate Explorer Post Advisor NCPD (P-2859), Mission District Unit Commissioner, Mission District Committee Member, Council Venturing Committee Member, and a Merit Badge Counselor.
He has served in several Scouting positions at the unit level over the past few years including Scoutmaster for 6 years with (T-324), Assistant Scoutmaster (T-324), and an Associate Crew Advisor (C-324). Bob also has been on staff for Scoutmaster, Assistant Scoutmaster Specific and Outdoor Leader Skills, Venturing Leader Specific Training, Powder Horn, BSA National Meeting, the council 100th Anniversary Midway event, International Camporee, Mission District Camporee Staff since 2004 and this will be his first time on Wood Badge staff.
Bob has been in Scouting since 1978 and earned his Eagle Scout in 1985 while in Troop 324 in La Mesa, CA. In 2003 Bob’s son, Rob, joined Troop 324 and in 2004 Bob took over the role as Scoutmaster earning the distinction of being the first Troop 324 Eagle Scout to also become the Scoutmaster. That was not the only first for the Drew clan. Bob’s dad was Scoutmaster of Troop 324 as well making them the first Father/Son Scoutmasters of the Troop. Rob earned his Eagle Scout in February 2011, making Bob and Rob the first father and son Troop 324 Eagle Scouts.
When Bob turned 18 years old he joined Exploring and spent 3 years in 2 different Explorer Posts. He first joined the La Mesa Fire Department Explorer Post and became Post President. When the Post was disbanded due to lack of youth membership, Bob joined the San Diego Fire Department Explorer Post and quickly became one of the top Officers in the Post being given the rank/position of Battalion Chief similar to the position of Vice President. Bob continued in that position until his 21st birthday. He has continued to help and encourage youth to join Exploring/Venturing though the years and worked with La Mesa and National City Police Department Explorer Posts. In 2004 his Wood badge Ticket was centered around bringing Venturing to his troop. After getting trained and many internal battles with the troop, Crew 324 was born. Currently the crew is small and growing but has a large high adventure following combined with older youth from the troop.
Bob took part in the WE4-49-04 Wood Badge course and earned his beads in 2006. He found it very flattering to be chosen as permanent Patrol Leader for his Eagle Patrol. Bob is an Order of the Arrow Brotherhood member and has received the Scouters Training Award (2004), Bachelor of Commissioner Science (2005), OA Leadership in Service Award (2006 & 2007), Scouters Key (2007), Master of Commissioner Science (2007), William D. Boyce New Unit Organizer (2007), George Meany Union Scouter Award (2008), District Award of Merit (2008), Venturing Leadership Award (2008) Scoutmaster Award of Merit (2009), started his Doctoral in Commissioner Science (2010) and is the Eagle Scout Alumni Association’s (ESAA) 2009 Scoutmaster of the Year. Bob is a BSA Lifeguard, Powder Horn and HALT Trained as well as a Lifetime Member of both the National Eagle Scout Association (NESA) and the Eagle Scout Alumni Association (ESAA).
Bob works full-time for the National City Fire Department as a Fire Inspector and has volunteered for many things outside of scouting through the years. He has been a Volunteer Firefighter for 13.5 years, a Reserve Police Officer for 9.5 years, and has been coaching his daughters Fast pitch Softball team for the last 6 years. Bob volunteers as a member of the National City Police and Fire Departments Color Guards as well as the San Diego Firefighter Emerald Society’s Color Guard (SDFES). He also been active with the Burn Institute and is a member of the California State Firefighters Association (CSFA), San Diego Fire Prevention Officers Association (SDEPO), California Conference of Arson Investigators (CCAI), International Association of Arson Investigators (IAAI), San Diego Law Enforcement Emerald Society (SDLEES) and the Peace Officers Research Association of California (PORAC).
Bob and his wife Leilani have four children - Rob (18) an Eagle and Venture Scout, Lisa (14) a Venture Scout, Leilea (6) and Leilorilli (2).
