WOOD BADGE WE6-49-11

Wood Badge for the 21st Century - "Leadership on the Cutting EDGE"

Picture
Many Scouters consider Wood Badge training to be the peak or "mountaintop" experience in their Scouting career. Wood Badge has served as a source of training and inspiration for thousands of scout leaders worldwide. In return Wood Badge participants have had a positive and profound influence on the lives of millions of America's youth by supporting the Mission of Boy Scouts of America to "Prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law."

The primary purpose of Wood Badge Training is to strengthen Scouting in local units, districts and the council. The Wood Badge course welcomes leaders from all areas of Scouting: Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Varsity Scouts, Venturing, District and Council volunteers to work together to identify individual goals that will guide and enhance their service to children and youth. These goals are known as the Wood Badge ticket. By completing the ticket, participants learn how they can strengthen the Scouting program wherever they serve and beyond.

3rd (& final) SDIC WB Legacy Reception, Nov 8th 7pm, at LDS in Vista

Hi again Wood Badgers,

Saturday was the second of three Legacy Campaign presentations geared to our SDIC Wood Badgers. I had a great time seeing some faces I hadn’t seen in a while! Just as a reminder, our next presentation will be this Tuesday evening at 451 W. Bobier in Vista, starting at 7 pm.

One of the points that came up was that some of you may not be updated on the driving forces behind the necessity of the Legacy Campaign. We are on a month-to-month lease with our facility at Camp Balboa. Depending on the outcome of the legal cases in which the BSA is involved, we may be without a council office sometime soon.

Our SDIC Board of Directors is actively looking for a home for a new Scout Resource Center. At this point, the Legacy Campaign has acquired almost $5 million of its $11 million goal.  Our current objective is to gather an additional $800,000 in cash to help with getting us in to this new facility, which we will then own!

In addition, 4 of the $11 million dollars is being raised for improvements at our Mataguay facility.

Many Scouters have asked how they can participate. We can use your help in identifying potential supporters of the scouting movement that may be willing to assist us in our efforts. Wood Badgers are being asked to help look for $200,000 of that total, or in fun terms, $25,000 per critter.

Tuesday night we will be armed with fliers and information that will get you updated, and help you help our youth as we embark on the next 100 years of Scouting in SDIC. Please RSVP if you can make it- we’d love to see you! And remember that your check book isn’t required. (No one will yell if you bring it!)
